Artocarpus camansi Blanco
Breadnut · Châtaignier-pays · Moraceae
Uses & extracts
From Papuasia to tropical gardens
Literature synthesis
- A. camansi is a forest and garden tree whose seeds are valued in New Guinea. French networks collected breadnut in the Philippines in 1776 and distributed it to colonies from the 1780s. This history differs from Bligh’s 1793 arrival with seedless breadfruit. It does not establish the provenance of the Odo individual.
Documentation and strength of evidence
Documentation: High
Claimed effect: Not evaluated
Seed composition: published results and local measurements
Laboratory study
- The 2010 study by Adeleke and Abiodun concerns A. camansi. It analyses protein, fat, minerals and other constituents. Its results are not measurements of Odo seeds. Compare on the same basis—fresh, cooked or dry—and measure actual recovery before assessing flour or oil production. Food value does not demonstrate a medicinal effect.
