Artocarpus camansi Blanco
Breadnut · Châtaignier-pays · Moraceae
Botany & ecology
Botanical origin source ↗Artocarpus camansi: botanical characters
Literature synthesis
- The large leaves are lobed; fruits are often oblong and spiny, with numerous large seeds. The species is distinct from A. altilis breadfruit and African breadnut Treculia africana. JB confirms A. camansi for his tree on 26 September 2026. Reference photographs support comparison and do not depict the Odo specimen.
Identification based on JB’s confirmation; cultivar not recorded.

Papuasian origin; introduced in Ghana
Literature synthesis
- Kew places the native range of Artocarpus camansi from Maluku to Papuasia. The species is introduced in Ghana even when planting material is obtained locally. At Odo, this is a planted tree; its provenance before planting is unknown. Treculia africana, native to Africa, is a different species and is not the tree documented here.

Why Treculia processing stays separate
Literature synthesis
- Treculia africana references describe extracting numerous small seeds from a mass of pulp. They concern a different species. These comparative references are not preparation or storage instructions for the Artocarpus camansi at Odo.
